The kimonos are dyed with the natural color Indigo and they can therefore dry tap.
Historically derived from plants, Indigo dye has been culturally and economically significant to Mali for centuries. Today most indigo dye is synthetic, only a few traditionally operated locations still utilize the natural compound, including this one from a cooperative in Bamako.
